“A reflection on death and palliative care. A transmedia work that comes from the continuous visits and experiences that I had in San Camilo Hospice”.

Iván Deiana

Hospices in Argentina are houses where people go to carry out an “end of life” process.

To be admitted there are no limitations on money, age, gender or religion. The only requirement is to have an advanced illness that has no treatment and a short life expectancy. The average stay in this Hospice is only 24 days.

Guests are treated for pain, both physical and mental. Poor, homeless and people with no families have priority. There is no charge for staying in the house.

Like the other Hospices in Argentina, San Camilo is an NGO that is sustained thanks donations and the unconditional work of more than 200 volunteers.

The Hospice movement considers that dying people need a special place different from what a hospital can offer. It’s a philosophy of care that focuses on integrating the different dimensions a person has.
